Civil Engineers |
| Civil engineering and land surveying were considered
to be different parts of the same profession. Today, civil engineers and land surveyors
are each licensed as different professions. Many firms offer both. There are however, many
engineering firms without in-house surveying staff, and they will generally choose not to
hire a surveying consultant who is a competitor in the engineering business. This does
give us something of an advantage. In the land development cycle, a land surveyor may be selected to work on a certain project before the civil engineer is selected. Because of this, civil engineers have the opportunity to work with a number of different land surveyors. Most civil engineering projects will require a topographic survey, and often boundary work as well. When a civil engineer is in a position to hire a surveying consultant, it is typically someone with whom a positive past relationship exists. |
